Las Vegas is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States. Whether it’s gambling, eating, sightseeing, or just relaxing, Las Vegas has everything you need to make your time here unforgettable. See what makes Las Vegas so great!
1. GAMBLING
There are more than 60 casinos in Las Vegas. Most of them are located along the four-mile long “Strip,” which is a stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road. Casinos closer to downtowns such as The D, Golden Gate, Four Queens, Binion’s Horseshoe, and El Cortez tend to be smaller, while the largest ones are out by the airport.
2. LUXURY
While the rest of Vegas is characterized by cheap thrills and tacky hotels, the “Strip” has a reputation for high-end hotels, including Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn, and Mandalay Bay. Outside of these luxury hotels are almost all of the casinos on the Strip; many feature actual palatial hotel rooms.
3. DAILY HAPPENINGS
The Strip is the area along Las Vegas Boulevard South between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road. Still, it extends slightly north to Harmon Avenue and Benny Binion’s original “Horseshoe” casinos (now part of the Four Queens and Binion’s Horseshoe).
There are dozens of bars, nightclubs, and restaurants on this stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard.
The same applies to Fremont Street. This street parallels Las Vegas Boulevard South between Main Street and Interstate 15. The upscale Downtown Container Park and the Container Park entrance at Fremont Street and Main Street is an oasis of shopping, dining, and entertainment.
4. NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
The city’s most visible sports team is the NFL’s Raiders. They play at the Oakland-Las Vegas (O.L.V.) Coliseum in suburban Las Vegas, with plans to move to a new stadium in downtown Oakland in 2016. The Rams moved from Los Angeles after the 1994 season but returned to L.A. in 2016.
The city’s other major sport is baseball, with the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies both playing in suburban Tropicana Field and Safeco Field respectively. Both teams are in neighboring cities to Las Vegas; the road to their stadiums has been known as the Las Vegas Strip.
5. SPORTS TEAMS
The city is home to a number of collegiate sports teams, including the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (basketball) and the UNLV Rebels (football). The city has also hosted several cycling events, including the Tour de Vegas and the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
The city is home to the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League. The former took over Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, which formerly hosted both football and baseball for a combined three seasons.
CONCLUSION
Las Vegas covers a lot of different aspects of life in the United States. From its strip to its gambling to its sports and entertainment, Las Vegas has something for everyone. A trip to Las Vegas may not be the same experience for everyone, but most visitors have no regrets about their stay.
6. Las Vegas Climate
Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert with an average summer temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit and an average winter temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The difference between winter highs and summer highs is about 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
